A good day and a good quiz ...

I spent today largely in Berkeley enjoying the wonderfully liberal atmosphere. It's hard to say whether the highlight of the day was the hour long massage or the hour spent in a wonderful little tea shop near the Berkeley campus sipping a fragrant cup of Lapsang Souchang tea and having some great conversation.

In my brief web browsing today I found a great quiz entitled 'Should I get a biology PhD?'. If you're wondering whether you're a good organismal biologist, take this quiz! Unfortunately, answering honestly only gets me to med school ... though I do find the "correct" answers to be quite accurate (and hilarious).

OK, I don't feel so bad now that I know the quiz-writer himself only got a 16 However, I can't believe that SC got a 3 ... how could anyone NOT want to end up at the Body Farm, take time-lapse pictures of their own wounds, or look for arthropods under rocks at the swimming hole? Hmm, maybe there's a reason linguists are unemployed after all ...

I absolutely loved the last question of the quiz, as ever since I've heard about the Body Farm I've wanted to end up there when I die. Heck, I want to go there before I die too, but hopefully I won't be serving as a datapoint then.

I got a 3. How is refrigerator repair like linguistics, though? I mean, refrigerator repair pays, doesn't it?

Don't feel bad. I only got a 16 -- I blame it on the shackles of family life. The kids think I'm weird enough when I hold myself back, I don't know what they'd do if I cut loose.

Once they move out, though, the lightning-collecting apparatus goes up on the roof, and the wife discovers why I thought the proximity of our new house to the town cemetery was a bonus.

Mwahahahee...dang, the evil laugh is getting rusty with disuse. Gotta go practice.
